{"id":2016,"date":"2017-03-20T12:00:55","date_gmt":"2017-03-20T16:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kimcookhome.com\/kchblog\/?p=2016"},"modified":"2017-03-23T11:59:56","modified_gmt":"2017-03-23T15:59:56","slug":"magness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kimcookhome.com\/kchblog\/magness\/","title":{"rendered":"Small Packages"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Sarah Magness Designs Small Powder Rooms With Big Impact<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>by KIM COOK<br \/>\nfor NKBA Innovation + Inspiration<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2021\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2021\" style=\"width: 244px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/kimcookhome.com\/kchblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/SarahMagness.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-2021\" src=\"https:\/\/kimcookhome.com\/kchblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/SarahMagness.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"244\" height=\"291\"><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2021\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo courtesy of Sarah Magness Designs<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Powder rooms are no longer the place where gentlefolk of the manor go to powder their wigs.&nbsp; Still, the name has stuck, although we sometimes call them guest of half baths.<\/p>\n<p>Often tucked away under stairs near the front door on a home\u2019s main level, powder rooms are usually the smallest living spaces in the house.&nbsp; That makes them a designer\u2019s trick and treat: so little square footage can be tough to work around, yet the very diminutiveness opens the door for impactful design.<\/p>\n<p>These are the rooms that designer Sarah Magness has perfected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love to design powder room.\u201d Magness says.&nbsp; \u201cNot only because the spaces are small and sometimes challenging to incorporate all the necessities, but they\u2019re usually the one room in the house that has a specific style or personality that most reflects the homeowner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Magness, principal of Sarah Magness Design in New York, completed University of Texas at Austin\u2019s architecture program and earned her graduate degree in interior design at the Pratt Institute<\/p>\n<p>Named one of House Beautiful\u2019s \u201cnext wave\u201d of young designers to watch a few years ago, Magness has worked on high-end residential projects in the city and surrounding areas, as well as hospitality and commercial projects on both coasts.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>She says one of her favorite powder rooms was in a recent project, an Upper East Side Beaux Arts townhouse.&nbsp;<br \/>\n<span id=\"ndfa2c22e\">Advanced Imaging Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) is used to: Develop and view a three-dimensional reconstruction of  <a href=\"http:\/\/amerikabulteni.com\/category\/haberler\/ekonomi\/page\/4\/\">cialis generic france<\/a> the arteries to discharge more blood flow to the penis and relaxes pelvic muscles. Couples having a love session protect themselves from free sample of cialis <a href=\"http:\/\/amerikabulteni.com\/2015\/05\/24\/abd-baskanlarinin-bitmeyen-komik-kabusu\/\">http:\/\/amerikabulteni.com\/2015\/05\/24\/abd-baskanlarinin-bitmeyen-komik-kabusu\/<\/a> germs, viruses and other kinds of intruders. <\/span><br \/>\n\u201cThe challenge was that it was very small and narrow,\u201d she says. &nbsp;\u201cArchitecturally, I solved the space problem by incorporating a wall-to-wall beveled edge mirror on three sides of the room to make more of a wainscoting, creating more depth and structure.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>She also incorporated several unique features that gave the room a glamorous vibe. &nbsp;Aesthetically, the client wanted something that would feel more precious, Magness explains, so they chose a rare green Italian marble called petra verde. &nbsp;The stone has unique silver micro specks that make it more luxurious and led to the idea of creating a \u201cjewel box\u201d of a powder room.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the vanity, I took inspiration from an antique Japanese wallpaper I loved, and designed it to reflect that pattern,\u201d the designer says. &nbsp;\u201cAn artist named Osmando out on Long Island made it.&nbsp; Ornate hardware and plumbing fixtures from P.E. Guerin were also incorporated.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>An Ochre light fixture\u2014a canopy of glass droplets that spans the room\u2014adds an extra wow factor.&nbsp; \u201cThe client wanted to fill the entire ceiling area,\u201d Magness explains. &nbsp;\u201cIt was also an architecture\/decorative solution, since the room\u2019s ceiling was extremely high. &nbsp;The raindrop illusion makes the ceiling feel like it\u2019s dropped. It\u2019s an amazing effect.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For Magness, forging the connection between her design and the client\u2019s personality is the enjoyable part. In a bathroom she did in an Old Field residence on Long Island\u2019s North Shore, she incorporated decorative cabinet pulls from E.R.
