{"id":2223,"date":"2017-08-03T12:00:10","date_gmt":"2017-08-03T16:00:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kimcookhome.com\/kchblog\/?p=2223"},"modified":"2017-08-10T11:53:37","modified_gmt":"2017-08-10T15:53:37","slug":"rich","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kimcookhome.com\/kchblog\/rich\/","title":{"rendered":"This Fall Decor&#8217;s Deep, Rich Hues Are Bolder"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KIM COOK<br \/>\nAssociated Press<\/p>\n<p>Deeper, richer hues are often part of decor\u2019s autumnal palette, but this year they\u2019re bigger and bolder than usual.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cColor is a powerful communicator,\u201d says Pottery Barn spokeswoman Monica Bhargava. \u201cIt can be a key point of inspiration that defines the mood and feel of a home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>PPG\u2019s color marketing manager Dee Schlotter sees a trend toward interiors \u201cthat embrace nocturnal shades\u201d in homes, hotels and stores.<\/p>\n<p>Deep hues are often incorporated through matte yet soft materials, she says.<\/p>\n<p>___<\/p>\n<p>IN THE MOOD<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love dusky blues, plums, gray of all types, and surfaces that have a mysterious effect,\u201d says Jamie Drake of New York-based Drake Anderson Interiors.<\/p>\n<p>For the guest bedroom of one project, Drake\/Anderson had Jonathan Kutzin of America Painting in Cresskill, New Jersey, create a strie effect with an iridescent blue top coat, evoking a moody retreat.<\/p>\n<p>In another apartment, in Midtown Manhattan, Drake says his company used deep plum tones to anchor the high-altitude rooms, while another project employed dark navy walls in a cozy library. \u201cUsing a color this dark in a small space is a favorite tool to make the edges of a room \u2018disappear\u2019 and create a mysterious illusion of more space,\u201d he says. (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.drakeanderson.com\/\">www.drakeanderson.com<\/a>&nbsp;)<\/p>\n<p>Some deep, dark colors evoke privacy, quietude and a feeling of being wrapped in warmth, designers say.<\/p>\n<p>But brighter, saturated hues can be uplifting and electric; Sherwin-Williams\u2019 two new collections are Affinity, inspired by craft and tribalism, and Connectivity, inspired by technology. To her, \u201cIt represents luxury and emulates lush foliage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cColor palettes that range from darker shades like black and navy, to gold and coral, complement the depth of emerald green,\u201d she continues, \u201cwhile pale neutrals like white and light gray give it a crisp and trendy edge. A courageous color, emerald green also works well with a number of materials and textures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Emerald is showing up in upholstery.
