Individuality is in when it comes to bridal fashion and accessories.<\/p>\n
\u201cBrides today want to look and feel like themselves \u2014 their most beautiful selves,\u201d says Amy Conway, editor in chief of Martha Stewart Weddings. \u201cThat means bringing their own style into their look. They\u2019re customizing with color or pattern, dramatic jewelry, bold shoes or other accessories with personality.\u201d<\/p>\n

THE DRESS<\/p>\n
\u201cThis year, embroidered details are a \u2018must-have\u2019 style,\u201d says Dayna Isom Johnson, a trends expert at Etsy.com. She says the site has seen a 40 percent increase in searches for embroidered bridal wear this year.<\/p>\n
Floral and celestial motifs are most popular, Johnson says, with hand-stitching giving a folksy-meets-formal feminine flair.<\/p>\n
Adds Conway: \u201cThe boho-chic look is going strong. High collars, long sleeves, lace and flowy skirts all add up to a cool, California-girl vibe.\u201d<\/p>\n
And speaking of sleeves, Conway has noticed the statement sleeve: long bell sleeves or voluminous puff sleeves. Some are even detachable.<\/p>\n
Bridal gown designers are thinking outside the white lines, offering dresses in blush, navy, celadon, peach, violet and ombre hues. Vera Wang has gowns in fashion-forward scarlet, cafe au lait, and even black.<\/p>\n
Bulgarian design studio Tonena Atelier has a soft gray gown decorated with romantic leaves and blooms. And Salt Lake City designer Natalie Wynn does a figure-flattering, A-line cream dress sprinkled with blue and gold stars.<\/p>\n
Conway is also noticing a bit of flapper flair: \u201cFringe and feathers are fun details, especially on shorter, flirty dresses that brides are changing into for late-night dancing,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n
But there\u2019s room for a pared-down look, too. \u201cWe\u2019re seeing a return to simplicity in some dresses. Clean, virtually unadorned designs in luxurious fabrics look elegant and timeless \u2014 and put emphasis on the bride,\u201d Conway says.<\/p>\n

HEADS WILL TURN<\/p>\n
Brides with simple, streamlined gowns are pairing them with eye-catching \u201cstatement\u201d veils, perhaps dressed up with tiny stars or decorative trims, Johnson says.<\/p>\n
Katie Howieson in Sedgefield, England, crafts a fingertip-length veil trimmed with gold stars. She also makes hair combs and headpieces decorated with metallic flowers, leaves, crystals and golden Swarovski pearls.<\/p>\n
Sandra Silveyra in Vancouver, British Columbia, who calls her studio Olivia the Wolf (\u201cfor fun and fearless brides\u201d), creates understated hair accessories out of seed pearls, brass flowers, glass and stone beads.<\/p>\n

WONDER BRIDE \u201cDesigned for the bride looking to stand out, they also provide shoulder coverage during a traditional ceremony, or a quick pre-reception change,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n Besides capes and capelets in lace or silky fabrics, look for motorcycle style jackets and sweaters.<\/p>\n Ivy and Aster has a comfy cashmere wrap sweater in ivory or blush. And Brooklyn, New York, designer Rebecca Schoneveld gives the modern bride a powerful silhouette with satin pencil skirts, georgette capes and soft charmeuse skirts with pockets.<\/p>\n ___<\/p>\n JEWELRY<\/p>\n One of the hottest jewelry trends, stacking rings, is also big in wedding world, says Johnson.<\/p>\n \u201cRe-imagined for a matrimonial setting, the customizable sets allow fashion-forward brides to mix up their look,\u201d she says. \u201cCouples can mark anniversaries and other milestones with special pieces imbued with sentiment.\u201d<\/p>\n Crown of Flight has a sapphire-and-diamond-encrusted ring that can fly solo or be stacked with colorful sister rings.<\/p>\n London designer Stephen Webster offers rings shaped like wings or forget-me-knots.<\/p>\n \u201cYellow gold is making a major comeback,\u201d says Conway. \u201cIt began even before Prince Harry told the world that it was Meghan Markle\u2019s favorite. Speaking of the royal ring . we\u2019ll be seeing a lot of rings with a pair of round side stones.\u201d<\/p>\n Besides interesting settings and shapes, there\u2019s creativity in color. Pink \u2014 home decor and fashion\u2019s pet hue \u2014 has found a foothold in the engagement-ring market. Morganite, a mineral found in pinky hues from blush to salmon, is selling well, according to WeddingWire.com. It\u2019s being placed in rose gold, platinum and gold settings.<\/p>\n Look for other unique stones, like tourmaline, emerald, opal, garnet and geode, as well as freeform \u201craw\u201d stones.<\/p>\n Colleen Banks, jewelry editor and senior associate style editor at Martha Stewart Weddings, is planning her own wedding this summer. She says chandelier earrings are back.<\/p>\n \u2018There\u2019s nothing better than a statement earring, especially on your wedding day.
